Carla, from our Reservations team, recently spent a week on holiday at Ocean Bay Hotel in Cape Point. Here are her highlights...
I'd never stayed at Ocean Bay before, even though I'd visited numerous times on educational trips, organised through work. I chose Ocean Bay as I wanted a quiet and relaxing holiday, and I have to say I absolutely made the right choice. Aside from the lovely pool, there was fantastic choice for breakfast, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, and the three-showers-in-one in our bathroom was great! There was a rain shower option, normal shower or even side jet blasters.
Ocean Bay is also conveniently right next to Cape Point Beach, which has to be one of the best in The Gambia. I loved the fact I was able to get fresh coconut water here too, which was served by the hotel on the beach.
With relaxation in mind, I thought I'd try the massage centre which is on-site. I was really impressed, as not only was the massage itself amazing, but I didn't have to wait and my one-hour treatment only cost around £15.
I was also keen to do some exploring away from the hotel during my stay, and I've always loved the Bakau area for the little markets and shops to have a stroll around. It's possible to walk to Bakau from Ocean Bay, there are some great little restaurants and places to grab coffee just a 15-20-minute walk away. It's best to visit in the morning, as you get a better feel for local African life whilst they buzz about getting ready for the busy day ahead.

During my holiday I also paid a visit to the Calypso restaurant, which is close to Cape Point Beach. I'd never been before, and I have to say it was a great place to sit and have a drink and leisurely lunch, whilst watching the resident crocodiles sunbathe and the local birds flitting through the trees and vegetation. Find out more about Calypso here.

If you like to go out and try different restaurants when on holiday, I would recommend Gida's. It's a lovely little oasis set in a courtyard, conveniently just a short taxi ride from Ocean Bay. I had a lovely meal here and can't wait to go back.
