A well-established hotel boasting a friendly atmosphere and a fantastic beachfront location, Ocean Bay Hotel has long been a favourite of holiday-makers in The Gambia.

Our Expert Opinion

"I absolutely loved the beach area, seeing the local life and market stalls of Cape Point. There are some fantastic restaurants only a short taxi drive away and the massage at the hotel was amazing."

- Carla, Sales

What we love

  • The great range of activities on offer, including table tennis, darts, water aerobics and a range of massage and beauty treatments (payable locally).
  • The impressive lobby, bar and restaurant areas, offering tasty buffets and a Mediterranean / Asian à la carte alternative.

Good to know

  • Deluxe rooms offer a better quality of accommodation. From November 2018 all our guests will receive this room type at no additional charge, although an upgrade to a full sea view is also available.
  • The beach outside the hotel is one of the best in The Gambia.

Beachfront relaxation

A refurbishment of the hotel’s reception area and restaurant in 2015 has created beautifully light and airy spaces, especially within the reception area – a room defined by whitewashed walls and exposed beams. A small spa was introduced and room improvements are also in evidence, with our standard rooms all now offering a sea view, while larger deluxe rooms provide additional facilities.

The large pool area remains a real focal point for activities and evening entertainment, surrounded by decking with sunloungers and parasols, and a separate shaded seating area. Plus, you’ll discover an air of tranquillity throughout the hotel’s lush, well-maintained gardens, while the beach, accessed directly from the hotel, is one of the finest in The Gambia. Its broad golden sweep of sand stretches on endlessly, providing the perfect place to enjoy the warm West African sunshine.

Dining at Ocean Bay

During the day, the pool bar with pizza oven provides an inviting lunchtime snack, and there’s also the choice of two restaurants; one serving buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner, including Gambian delicacies, and the beachside Buddha Restaurant & Lounge serving beautifully presented sushi as well as other Asian and international dishes.

Why not try a cocktail from one of the hotel bars, including a refreshing lemongrass iced tea for which the hotel is well known? There are also themed evenings scheduled during winter, with entertainment including shows by the resident animation team and live bands to appeal to all the family.

Out and about

In the vicinity, there are a couple of other hotels, local bars, small restaurants including Calypso where crocodile viewing is possible, shops and a craft market all within easy reach, and the popular resort of Kololi is only a 15-minute taxi ride away, presenting a wider offering of bars and eateries.

Important information

Please note that a cash-free system within the hotel is in operation payment for all services and food/beverages must be made via reception - VISA, Mastercard and cash are accepted (although there may be card charges) - there are ATM machines which accept VISA cards close by.

About the Local Area (Cape Point)

With its excellent beach and conference centre at the Ocean Bay Hotel this area now has great appeal. There are a small number of restaurants and bars here along with craft stalls, mini-market and taxi rank. Calypso bar and restaurant is situated next to the hotel with a small lake often allowing you to view crocodiles. Bakau is a 10 minute walk from here.

A wide, sandy beach. Groynes have been built to stop any erosion of the sand.
