Two UK Rotary Clubs raised £2500 in 2021 to help light a village in The Gambia, supported by The Gambia Experience Community Development Programme.

The village of Kerr Gido has benefitted from the fundraising efforts of two Rotary Clubs; Rotary Club of Boston Saint Botolph and the Rotary Club of Grantham Sunrise with the project being completed during May 2022. This follows previous fundraising by Rotary Clubs in the UK to give solar lighting to villages in The Gambia.

Their amazing fundraising efforts have resulted in the village receiving 50 ZonHome LED lights with mobile charges plus local women were trained on the assembly of the bulbs and who will be involved in the continuing maintenance of the bulbs. A great double initiative which will empower women and remove the dangerous fire hazards that candles pose.

The Gambia Experience has supported the ComAfrique Inversol Initiative for several years as part of our development and socially responsible goal as it shares our sustainable vision of helping villagers to better their lives by become more self-reliant and addressing environmental issues at the same time. 22 villages have now had their lives improved through this initiative, a total of 920 lights with a positive impact for 13,000 Gambians.

Update – The latest village, helped as a result of money raised by Rotary Clubs Boston St Botolph and Grantham Sunrise is Kerr Gido.
