The Gambia offers a great combination of good fishing, warm sunshine, interesting culture & unique experiences. We have put together how to take advantage of fishing in The Gambia and Senegal.

The Gambia promises travelling anglers guaranteed sunshine, as well as interesting culture and experience during downtimes from fishing! Whether you are a beginner looking for a unique first experience, or an expert in the field, there are plenty of opportunities to fish in The Gambia, as well as its neighbour, Senegal.

Sea Fishing

The Gambia provides the opportunity to catch a variety of fish all year round, from tropical sporting species to record breakers like shark and Tarpon. In recent years there has been a lack of capable offshore boats in The Gambia, which has slowed down the progressive development of off-shore grounds, but, there is a well-established fleet a few hours away in Senegal. More information on fishing in Senegal is below! It is also worth noting that due to the over-fishing by trawlers and fish factories built at Sanyang and Kartong, The Gambia is less of a fishing destination than it used to be. Speak to your Gambian representative during your holiday for advice on where to find a deep-sea fishing excursion for you.

Fishing in Senegal

For the chance to experience fantastic sea fishing, book a stay at Lamantin Beach Resort and Spa, Senegal. Here, they have their very own marina, where deep-sea fishing trips can be booked with the Saly Fishing Club. The hotel is one of the best in Senegal and provides wonderful accommodation and stunning surroundings. It also caters to families, so there is plenty to do for everyone of all ages.

The Lazy Day Cruise

This relaxing cruise is perfect for someone wishing to start their fishing journey, and what better place to start than the beautiful Gambia! Spend the day on board a 60ft modern Gambian-style river pirogue, leaving from Denton Bridge. You will spend the morning cruising along the oyster creeks whilst coffee is served. The boat is anchored for lunch and after a tasty meal, you will have the chance to fish. Fishing rods are passed out to those who wish to try their hand at making a catch. This is a great day for families who may want different things from their day out!

Fishing from Ngala Lodge

When the tide is out and guests can reach the beach, Ngala Lodge is the perfect base to fish from. The tidal beach here is a pretty, sandy cove which can be reached via steep steps - a great fishing spot. Rods are available for guests to use (although limited availability so make sure to ask about it beforehand), however, the best part is bringing back your catch for the chef to cook for you. Enjoy your very own catch of the day in the hotel's stunning panoramic restaurant... what could be a better ending to a day of fishing than that?
