Relax, unwind and enjoy a touch of luxury at Ngala Lodge, an award-winning hotel in The Gambia.
Away from the main resorts, nestled on a secluded cliff top with outstanding views, we would thoroughly recommend staying at Ngala Lodge during your break to The Gambia. This adult-only, boutique hotel brings magic like nowhere else, and once discovered, is impossible to forget.
If this isn't enough persuasion, here are five more reasons why this slice of paradise should be on your list for your next holiday.
The views
Poised high above a small cove and with cliff top views across the Atlantic ocean, you will never be far from a stunning view at Ngala Lodge. Soak up the scenes of crystal clear waters and sandy beaches from the comfort of your sunlounger or relax with a cold drink in hand and watch the sunset in the evening.
The rooms
Each of the suites at Ngala Lodge brings a whole new meaning to the word boutique. You’ll soon discover that each suite at Ngala is unique, cool and spacious, with several impressive room options available - most of which boast a superb view across the hotel’s picturesque grounds.
The main building of Ngala Lodge was formerly a colonial mansion and houses the 10 original suites over two floors, some having their own private garden area. Gradually a variety of different suites have been added (such as the Macondo suites pictured below) to provide holidaymakers with even more choice and luxury, however retaining the sense of space and intimacy. Each room has many individual features, such as a small library of reading material, designed to make guests feel very much at home.
The grounds
The hotel’s grounds offer a truly tranquil setting, perfect for a relaxing holiday. It’s difficult not to fall in love with this remarkable oasis of serenity and beauty, especially with the exquisite features and gardens that are just waiting to be discovered.
As a child-free hotel, the palm-filled tropical gardens remain peaceful throughout the entire day, with ample space for you to secure a secluded spot to enjoy a drink and your favourite book. Further to the stunning gardens, Ngala Lodge will no doubt entice you with its two inviting swimming pools, one of which is an infinity pool that seems to effortlessly merge with the blue waters of the Atlantic ocean. Heaven!
The food
Prepare to enter dining heaven when visiting the hotel’s elevated restaurant. Arguably one of the most enticing features of staying at Ngala Lodge, the restaurant offers exceptional dishes from their à la carte menu, served up by their passionate chef team, headed by English chef, Jonathan Groves. With daily specials and an extensive wine list, dining at the renowned restaurant offers a sublime mix of locally sourced ingredients and international cuisine.

The beach
Make the most of the private beach: another reason why staying at Ngala Lodge is a cut above the rest. The tidal coastline is an attractive, sandy cove which can be reached by steps down from the hotel and provides an ideal spot for fishing or a romantic stroll. Here you will discover a raised wooden terrace area, complete with sunloungers and shaded cabanas, allowing you to enjoy a beachfront location from above! Soak up the warm African sunshine whilst enjoying the sounds of the waves hitting the golden sand around you. What's more, the terrace remains open to allow for evening drinks and to watch the sunset - the perfect setting.
