Pick of the Month

Located in the bustling resort of Kololi, beside the sea, Senegambia is one of The Gambia’s best-known hotels and a great choice for many holidaymakers.

Our Guest's Opinion

"The grounds were beautiful. The room was large and clean. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the location was amazing."

- Mrs Brenner

What we love

  • The central location – a stone’s throw from the bars and restaurants of ‘The Strip’.

Good to know

  • The gardens are full of birdlife and other wildlife, including red colobus and green monkeys. Don't miss the daily vulture feeding display at 11.30am.
  • A wide, sandy platform is ideal for sunbathing, with steps leading to the ocean at low tide.

Relaxation, activities and wildlife

Senegambia Beach Hotel is The Gambia’s largest hotel, with its extensive grounds and careful design offering the best of both worlds – vibrant and exciting entertainment, and a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere. In addition to this, the hotel’s location beside the beach in the vibrant resort of Kololi makes it ideal for those wishing to relax on the sand or explore the surrounding bars and eateries.

This is a lively hotel with a wide range of activities during winter aimed at adults, teenagers and children – the most popular being the daily vulture feeding which takes place in the hotel’s gardens, attracting several species of birds and monitor lizards, as well as monkeys looking for a free lunch. The famous Senegambia gardens and the diverse birdlife that reside within them can be explored further with the hotel's resident ornithologist, on hand to provide tours within the grounds.

A blissful retreat

Dotted throughout the extensive, lush gardens, you will find the majority of the guest rooms, located in two-storey buildings. Decorated using neutral tones and wooden furniture, the rooms are well equipped and offer a comfortable night’s sleep, especially given that all rooms include air-conditioning as standard. The popular Superior rooms located in the main building or gardens provide a good upgrade option, while Studios with separate lounge and bedroom are also available; these often sell out quickly so it is best to book early.

Chill by the pool and dine in style

Senegambia Beach Hotel boasts two attractive pools, one located by the beach where you can enjoy lively music and organised games, the other nestled in the tropical gardens; both have their own bar and restaurant.

Evening entertainment at the Senegambia during winter is both varied and animated thanks to its in-house entertainment team, along with African folklore nights and themed buffet evenings by the Oasis Pool Restaurant (subject to numbers). The international and snack menu here provides an excellent value, all-day dining option with lunches also available at the beach restaurant.

About the Local Area (Kololi)

Kololi is by far the most established resort area. ‘The strip’ as it is known locally, consists of a number of bars and a couple of nightclubs, frequented by both locals and tourists.

There are a large number of places to eat serving a variety of cuisine styles - you can get anything from an excellent curry, a Lebanese dish or a more traditional Gambian meal. There is one casino on the strip, not to mention a whole host of bars and clubs - all of which throb into the early hours, but may be quieter between May and October. The strip also boasts banks and exchange bureaus, cafés and shops. It is generally fairly relaxed in the day and really comes into its own at night.

Beaches

The beach outside the Senegambia, Kololi Sands Apartments and Holiday Beach Club has a strip of sand plenty wide enough for sunbathing on, with sunbeds and parasols just outside the hotels. At low tide you can walk for miles along the sands.
