Overlooking an extensive area of lush greenery and the River Gambia, this hilltop lodge enjoys an enviable location on the North Bank.

Our Guest's Opinion

"What a wonderful lodge - I immediately felt at home chatting to the local host and chef, while my eyes kept straying to the fabulous view. Make sure to wake up and catch the sunrise from outside your room, a great time of day for birdwatching too."

- Karen, Product Manager

What we love

  • The views - with benches strategically placed along the hilltop you can enjoy these in peace and quiet.
  • The staff are exceptionally friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

Good to know

  • No alcohol is served at the camp but you are welcome to bring your own.
  • Payment is dalasis cash only, and meal/drink prices are very reasonable.
  • Located on the North Bank, the lodge can be reached in approximately four hours via the bridge at Soma or the ferry to Barra.

Unwind in nature

Ideal for nature lovers and those seeking tranquillity, Kauren River Camp is located close to the UNESCO-listed Wassu stone circles, as well as the national park which is recognised as a sanctuary for Gambia’s wildlife, and a home for hippos and chimpanzees.

Just a few minutes from the wharf town of Kaur, the lodge is easily reached by road and perfect for overnight stays and delicious lunches. The on-site open restaurant serves a blend of traditional and classic Gambian cuisines along with international dishes, with a focus on fresh, organic ingredients. The local staff, under the guidance of Gambian businesswoman Farma Njie who has lovingly brought this project to life, are proud to show off their culinary skills and will make you feel extremely welcome.

The lodge is home to 10 en-suite rooms, all with comfortable amenities including air-conditioning. The views from the rooms over the river are stunning and a popular feature amongst guests.

Explore and experience

Surrounding vegetation is a haven for birdlife so nature walks are popular or simply sit and admire the breathtaking views from the gardens and restaurant area, enjoying the sounds of nature.
