Self-catering in The Gambia

As our main self-catering property in The Gambia, a stay at Bungalow Beach offers guests a comfortable base from which to enjoy both the highlights of this beautiful destination and its varied cuisine. Set along Kotu’s expanse of sandy beach, you can find plenty of places to relax on the golden sands or around the hotel’s refreshing pool.

The apartments at 'BB' (as it’s known by its many regular visitors) are arranged in two-storey blocks surrounded by tranquil, well-kept gardens, with each including a small kitchenette, fridge and lounge/diner, so you can dine in should you wish to. Some of the apartments have views towards the ocean, which are available as an upgrade, while a limited number of smaller studios without the separate lounge area and with a single bed are available for sole occupancy with no single supplement.

Food, entertainment and exploration

There’s a mini-market on-site, so you can pick up some staple supplies], plus there’s a restaurant at the hotel for your convenience. You’ll also enjoy a welcome pack on arrival which includes provisions such as milk, fruit juice, tea/coffee, cheese and jam, and to supplement this there is a daily delivery of fresh bread. If you fancy eating out, Kotu offers a small selection of restaurants and beach bars, however just a 10-minute taxi ride will take you to the bustling resort of Kololi. Here, you can discover many more eateries, serving all manner of cuisine.

Although there is a limited activity and entertainment programme at the hotel, clients staying at the Bungalow Beach Aparthotel have a number of daytime and evening activities to choose from without having to stray too far. Whether it is the nearby golf course, birdwatching at Kotu Stream or exploring the local craft market, you’ll find plenty to do.

About the Local Area (Kotu)

This is a resort area that has developed over the past few years with some new bars and restaurants now open in winter, in addition to hotel restaurants which are open to the public.

Kotu boasts some popular hotels, with Kombo Beach dominating the beachfront. There is also the quieter charm of Bakotu and the beautiful gardens of Bungalow Beach Aparthotel. The area also has a busy and boisterous craft market in which you can find batiks and all manner of superb wood carvings. Kotu has a number of good restaurants including the excellent Sailor's local restaurant which is along the beach. There is also a golf course nearby.

Beaches

A wide, sandy beach which is fairly flat and ideal for families, although not a very deep beach in terms of distance to the ocean. The area outside the Sunset Beach can change quite dramatically depending on the direction of the Kotu stream.
