Our Expert Opinion

''We loved our spotlessly clean swim-up pool room where we could cool off with little effort, and we also really enjoyed the selection of restaurants within a short walk.''

- Debbie, Reservations

What we love

  • Fresh and modern rooms with excellent facilities.
  • The connection to water with swim-up ground floor rooms, as well as ocean views from standard rooms (located on the first floor), and main pool and restaurant areas.

Good to know

  • A small selection of bars and restaurants lie within easy walking distance of the hotel.

A superb hotel with swim-up rooms

Water is a key feature of African Princess Beach Hotel, with a network of eight free-form pools meandering throughout the property. Although the pools aren't private, the ground floor rooms have direct access to the water for a refreshing dip straight from your private terrace. A further, larger pool is located close to the beachfront, where occasional pool games will take place.

All guest rooms are spacious and offer a range of modern facilities, as you would expect from a quality hotel, and all enjoy a side sea view from the balcony or terrace. A buffet will be on offer for both breakfast and dinner (subject to minimum numbers), with an à la carte menu also available. However we also recommend exploring the dining options in the vicinity.

Entertainment will take place in a central area near the main pool, with a variety of evening shows as well as some daytime activities such as paddle tennis. However, with no children under 12 allowed, the hotel remains relatively tranquil during the day, allowing you to soak up the African sun, whether by the pool or on the sandy beach right outside the hotel. As the sun sets, guests can enjoy a beer or cocktail on the terrace overlooking the beach.

Exploring the local area

South Kotu has a small but growing selection of bars and restaurants, and it's only a leisurely walk along the beach to Kotu, where you'll find further beach bars and hotel restaurants. The nearby resort of Kololi offers a wide range of places to eat and drink, and is only a short taxi ride away.

No children under 12 allowed.

About the Local Area (South Kotu)

This is a resort area that has developed over the past few years with some new hotels, and a small selection of bars and restaurants. There are a number of popular bars and restaurants including Italian and an ice-cream parlour on the road leading down to the beach, along with a couple of beach bars.

The slightly larger resort of Kotu is across Kotu stream, reached via a gentle stroll along the beach or with a short taxi ride. It boasts some popular hotels, with Kombo Beach dominating the beachfront. There's also the quieter charm of Bakotu Hotel and the beautiful gardens of Bungalow Beach Aparthotel. The area also has a busy and boisterous craft market in which you can find batiks and all manner of superb wood carvings. Kotu has a number of good restaurants, alternatively Kololi with its wider choice is just 10 minutes' drive from South Kotu. There's also a golf course nearby.

Beaches

A wide, sandy beach which is fairly flat and ideal for a walk either down to Kololi or across Kotu stream to the hotels in the neighbouring resort of Kotu.
