The Kairaba Hotel is an old favourite offering a quiet and tranquil haven located on the beach yet close to Kololi’s vibrant heart.

Our Expert Opinion

"The gardens at The Kairaba Hotel are beautiful and it's hard to believe that you are so close to great bars and restaurants whilst in the hotel; it's perfect for a relaxing holiday in the sunshine."

- Tony, Customer Facing Manager

What we love

  • The tranquil, manicured gardens really make this property stand out; watch out for the resident peacocks!
  • Superior Deluxe Rooms - large corner balcony and double aspect windows give a light and airy feel to these rooms.
  • With a host of restaurants just outside, cuisine options for Kairaba guests are endless.

Good to know

  • We now sell the hotel as a 3.5 grade property, and it offers great value in a popular resort. We recommend upgrading to a room in the gardens.
  • Standard garden rooms are located between the hotel entrance and the reception building. If you wish to be in the main garden area, please book an upgraded room.

The hotel’s prime location

The Kairaba Hotel enjoys not only a superb position alongside Kololi Beach, but is also just a stone’s throw from the bars and restaurants of Kololi, The Gambia’s largest and liveliest resort. However, you needn’t worry about getting that much-needed dose of relaxation at this property – with extensive gardens covering much of The Kairaba's grounds and a large feature pool, it’s not hard to find a quiet spot in which to sunbathe or witness some of the incredible wildlife.

Recommended room types

Deluxe rooms are situated in two-storey buildings within the main gardens leading to the beach. From your balcony or terrace, you can enjoy views across the attractive lawns. These, along with the Superior Deluxe rooms and Premium Suites, are superior in size, quality and location to the standard garden rooms, which can be found just inside the hotel entrance.

Achieve ultimate relaxation

This property is all about peace and relaxation, which is only interrupted by the green monkeys and birdlife visiting from the nearby forest. There are no pool games or loud music during the day, so choose to enjoy the African sunshine by the large pool or on the beach. This property is popular for conferences and functions for Gambian dignitaries and foreign Ministers of State.

Spoilt for choice when dining

Breakfast is served in the elevated Kingfisher restaurant, and the Malimbe poolside snack bar provides excellent lunches with the occasional themed evening buffet. It is possible to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant but we recommend venturing out and enjoying some of the varied restaurants available just a stone's throw away.

About the Local Area (Kololi)

Kololi is by far the most established resort area. ‘The strip’ as it is known locally, consists of a number of bars and a couple of nightclubs, frequented by both locals and tourists.

There are a large number of places to eat serving a variety of cuisine styles - you can get anything from an excellent curry, a Lebanese dish or a more traditional Gambian meal. There is one casino on the strip, not to mention a whole host of bars and clubs - all of which throb into the early hours, but may be quieter between May and October. The strip also boasts banks and exchange bureaus, cafés and shops. It is generally fairly relaxed in the day and really comes into its own at night.

Beaches

The beach outside the Senegambia, Kololi Sands Apartments and Holiday Beach Club has a strip of sand plenty wide enough for sunbathing on, with sunbeds and parasols just outside the hotels. At low tide you can walk for miles along the sands.
