Located near Fimela in the Sine Saloum North region of Senegal, this exclusive, charming wooden lodges standing amidst beautiful tropical gardens and enjoying a prime location near the water. Each lodge has its own private terrace, ideal for sunbathing or alfresco dining.

Located by the water, near Fimela in the Sine Saloum Delta, Souimanga Lodge offers exclusive, comfortable accommodation in a picturesque, tranquil setting.

The Lodge, which opened in 2007, is small but perfectly formed with the emphasis on ensuring guests are well looked after and receive personal attention; with only a small number of guests, nothing is ever too much trouble.  The seven air-conditioned lodges are nestled amongst the trees and colourful, flowering plants, each individually and beautifully decorated to a high standard with African style furnishings, fabrics and ornaments.  The stylish bathrooms have twin basins, a large walk-in shower and ample wardrobe space and the large picture windows open on to private decking areas where you can sunbathe, sit and take in the unspoilt views across the gardens, the pool and the river or even enjoy a private breakfast or dinner.

The small, infinity swimming pool benefits from views over the water where you can relax in comfort on cushioned sun-beds under the shade of the trees and the umbrellas.  Only a short walk away is the bar for a cooling drink.  The adjacent restaurant serves excellent, freshly cooked food, which is served in style either inside the restaurant or on one of the terraces.  You can even enjoy a romantic, private meal on the covered terrace at the end of the Lodge’s private jetty.  A recent addition has been the massage suite, constructed over the water and reached by its own jetty, where you and a partner can enjoy a therapeutic massage whilst also being lulled into a relaxed state by the breezes off the water and the blissful peace and beauty of the natural setting.

Whilst the atmosphere at Souimanga Lodge is peaceful and calming, you can also venture out and explore the local area on one of the excursions on offer, whether by boat, horse-drawn buggy or by car, or go fishing along the local rivers.  Bird-watchers will be in their element, with so many colourful species available both at the Lodge and in the surrounding area.

Souimanga Lodge will appeal to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings.

About the Local Area (Sine Saloum North)

The Sine Saloum Delta is an 180,000-hectare area that encompasses the Saloum Delta National Park, and is a truly stunning part of Senegal.

Formed where two rivers converge on the mighty Atlantic Ocean, it's a region of great diversity consisting of a unique estuarine environment, glorious beaches, mangrove swamps, sand islands and ever-shifting dunes. The region is a joy to explore, and whether you're picking your way in a personal horse drawn carriage through the great herds of baobabs and salt-craters dug by the local women or quietly navigating the lush greenery of the labyrinthine waterways in a pirogue you're sure to absorb the region's gentle magic.

Thanks to its ecological diversity it is also rich in animal life, and for birdwatchers, the Delta will also not disappoint; home to a stunning variety of birds, such as flamingos, pelicans, herons, gulls, terns, egrets and avocets. Many of the hotels will arrange special birding trips to view them in their natural habitats.

For the fisherman, it is an angler’s dream with a wealth of fish in both the rivers and the ocean; you might even spot the odd manatee or dolphin in the coastal lagoon. Many of the hotels have their own boats or pirogues and offer specialised fishing trips, as well as more leisurely sightseeing trips along the rivers to deserted beaches and local villages.

In the Sine Saloum, many of the hotels have their own boats and offer specialised birding and fishing trips, as well as more leisurely trips along the river to deserted beaches.

As the hotels in the Sine Saloum Delta are a little more isolated, evenings are usually spent in the hotel enjoying a good meal and drinks in the bar, with occasional musical entertainment.
