The all-inclusive Sheraton Gambia Hotel is built into a hillside that gently shelves among towering baobabs to a deserted beach below.
Overlooking the ocean and nestled between giant baobab trees, this beachfront property is extremely popular as an all-inclusive hotel and is well established as a popular tourist hotel, as well as offering extensive conference facilities. Its fantastic location beside the ocean ensures stunning views from both the rooms and public areas. The atmosphere is lively in winter, although quiet corners can be found and the small spa with its separate pool offers a tranquil alternative.
The appeal of the hotel is obvious as soon as you step into the impressive reception, with views down to the pool area and beach below through huge full length windows. The lower level of the hotel is situated next to the unspoilt beach with lawns surrounding the large infinity swimming pool. There are many pathways and steps within the hotel, although golf buggies are in operation on request and there are two glass lifts connecting the reception, Cremetata buffet restaurant and the pool/bar area.
Hotel bedrooms are of a contemporary style, and enjoy sea views from their ocean-facing balcony or terrace. There are 2 wings: the Baobab Wing is closer to the main building and restaurants, housing the Standard Baobab rooms. There is also a a variety of upgraded room options which are larger and closer to the beach such as the superbly located Beach Palm rooms offering uninterrupted ocean views from both ground and upper floors.
Dining during winter is buffet style and may be in the elevated Crematata buffet restaurant (not air-conditioned) where an extensive breakfast is also served, but mainly at the poolside. Live cooking stations for grilled meats and fish offer something different and afternoon snacks including excellent burgers are served for all-inclusive guests. From April to October an all-day dining menu with a variety of dishes will be available until 10.30pm offering a good choice for lunch, dinner and snacks. An à la carte menu is also available with a 20% discount for all-inclusive guests. The Bar-A-Cuda pool bar serves drinks throughout the day and is the main all-inclusive outlet; the Link@Sheraton bar in the lobby lounge area enjoys stunning sea views and is run with a Wi-Fi service and interactive games area.
Bed and breakfast board basis is available, but we suggest going ‘all-inclusive’ which is how we price our holidays, allowing you to budget more effectively for your holiday - see all-inclusive information. The Sheraton is run primarily as a tourist hotel, with a lively atmosphere and less corporate feel, within the context of the Gambian laid-back, friendly attitude towards service. Whilst improvements are constantly being made, this hotel cannot be compared to some 5* Sheraton business properties in other destinations and we still believe our 4 grade rating to be accurate.
Located near the village of Brufut, the setting of this hotel is more secluded than some others in our collection with few bars and restaurants in the direct vicinity, making it ideal for a hotel-based holiday. But with a number of activities on offer including a fitness room with a programme of exercise classes available, beach volleyball, darts and table tennis, there is plenty to do within the hotel along with simply relaxing! Children's activities may occasionally be organised, subject to minimum numbers, and there is a kid's play area and separate pool.
The Spa is located in a separate building with a fitness centre as well as indoor and outdoor treatment areas, from where you can enjoy a massage overlooking the sea. There is also a quiet pool in this area overlooking the beach. All guests will receive free use of the sauna and steam room from 9am-9pm. See spa information
The lively resort of Kololi is just a ten minute taxi ride away and the hotel works with local tourist taxis to provide a courtesy taxi service to shuttle you there twice daily - you can then make your own way back once you have finished shopping in the craft market or enjoying a refreshing drink in one of the numerous bars you will find there.
