Sarge's Hotel, with its comfortable room options, is a sound choice for those wishing to stay in the thriving resort of Kololi.

Our Expert Opinion

"You can’t beat Sarge’s for its central location. The enclosed courtyard with its inviting pool is a great place to relax during the day"

- Tony Reilly, Customer Manager

What we love

  • The central location allowing easy access to the shops, bars and restaurants of Kololi.

Good to know

  • Deluxe rooms offer much more space with additional facilities and air-conditioning.

Great value in The Gambia

This fun and friendly property is under the same management team as Bungalow Beach Aparthotel in Kotu, and promises a great location for getting out to explore the resort, while also providing a quiet space for some relaxation. This is a good value choice for both groups and those wanting a simple, yet comfortable hotel in the heart of a lively resort.

The standard rooms are fairly small but offer a good level of accommodation for this grade of hotel. All rooms have televisions, while air-conditioning is available locally for a supplement, though is included in upgraded Deluxe rooms. The Deluxe rooms are much larger, equipped with a seating area and flat screen television, as well as a fridge and tea/coffee-making facilities. Rooms are arranged on three floors, all surrounding the central courtyard which is home to the inviting swimming pool and sun terraces.

Exploring Kololi

If the pool is not for you, or you fancy getting out and about, the hotel has access to a sandy beach which is located no more than 400 metres away. The hotel also houses a massage centre and hairdresser (independently owned), while a mini-market and exchange bureau are amongst the shops located just outside the hotel.

Evening entertainment takes the form of local shows, although you may find the hotel can be less busy in the evenings due to the convenient location in the centre of Kololi. There is an excellent variety of restaurants, a number of bars and nightclubs, a craft market and several shops all just outside the hotel. For this reason, we do not offer this hotel on a half board basis (this can be arranged in advance for groups).

About the Local Area (Kololi)

Kololi is by far the most established resort area. ‘The strip’ as it is known locally, consists of a number of bars and a couple of nightclubs, frequented by both locals and tourists.

Kololi could probably be called the heart of the tourist industry in The Gambia with a selection of different grade hotels and some of the country's best restaurants.

There are a large number of places to eat serving a variety of cuisine styles on the Kololi strip - you can get anything from an excellent curry, a Lebanese dish or a more traditional Gambian meal. There are two casinos on the strip not to mention a whole host of bars and clubs - all of which throb into the early hours, but may be quieter between May and October. The strip also boasts banks & exchange bureaus, internet cafes and shops. It is generally fairly relaxed in the day and really comes into its own during the evening and night.

Beaches

The beach outside the Senegambia and Kairaba hotels is suffering from erosion since the sand was replenished in 2003; currently there is a strip of sand plenty wide enough for sunbathing on, with sunbeds and parasols, just outside the hotels, however the beach then drops a level for access to the ocean with temporary steps provided outside The Kairaba Hotel. A further replenishment project is currently awaiting funding and is planned during 2016.
