Sarge's Hotel, with its choice of comfortable room options, is a sound choice for those wishing to stay in the thriving resort of Kololi. The atmosphere is fun and friendly and the beach is just a short stroll away.

Formerly known as the Tafbel Hotel, it is now under the same management team as Bungalow Beach Aparthotel in Kotu. The standard rooms are fairly small but offer a good level of accommodation for this grade of hotel; all rooms have duvets and televisions, and air-conditioning is available locally for a supplement, or is included in upgraded Deluxe rooms. These are much larger with a seating area, flat screen television plus fridge and tea/coffee-making facilities. Rooms are arranged on three floors surrounding the central courtyard housing the swimming pool and sun terraces.

If the pool is not for you, the hotel has access to a sandy beach no more than 400 metres away. Evening entertainment takes the form of local shows, although you may find the hotel can be less busy in the evenings due to the convenient location in the centre of Kololi. There is an excellent variety of restaurants, a number of bars and nightclubs, craft market and shops all just outside the hotel, therefore we do not offer this hotel on a half board basis (this can be arranged in advance for groups).

The hotel also houses a massage centre and hairdresser (independently owned), and a mini-market and exchange bureau are amongst the shops located just outside. This is a good value choice for both groups and those wanting a simple, yet comfortable hotel in the heart of a lively resort.

About the Local Area (Kololi)

Kololi is by far the most established resort area. ‘The strip’ as it is known locally, consists of a number of bars and a couple of nightclubs, frequented by both locals and tourists.

Kololi could probably be called the heart of the tourist industry in The Gambia with a selection of different grade hotels and some of the country's best restaurants.

There are a large number of places to eat serving a variety of cuisine styles on the Kololi strip - you can get anything from an excellent curry, a Lebanese dish or a more traditional Gambian meal. There are two casinos on the strip not to mention a whole host of bars and clubs - all of which throb into the early hours, but may be quieter between May and October. The strip also boasts banks & exchange bureaus, internet cafes and shops. It is generally fairly relaxed in the day and really comes into its own during the evening and night.

Beaches

The beach outside the Senegambia and Kairaba hotels is suffering from erosion since the sand was replenished in 2003; currently there is a strip of sand plenty wide enough for sunbathing on, with sunbeds and parasols, just outside the hotels, however the beach then drops a level for access to the ocean with temporary steps provided outside The Kairaba Hotel.
