Under new management since late 2013, which has led to extensive improvements in public areas, the Ocean Bay provides a wide range of facilities, with a choice of room types set within beautiful gardens in a beachfront setting. Popular with couples and families, the hotel has an all-inclusive light option.
This popular hotel offers an excellent range of facilities and dining, and is a great choice for couples or families looking to simply relax and enjoy the Gambian sunshine. Following extensive renovation work to public areas during the Winter 14/15 season, we believe our new 4.5 grade rating to be well deserved.
You cannot fail to be impressed when you enter the stunning new galleried lobby area, with stylish wooden beams continuing through into the refurbished Hacienda buffet restaurant. The large swimming pool is the focal point of the hotel and was improved through the replacement of the tiled surround with wooden decking in early 2015, along with new furniture and shaded seating areas for poolside dining. For families there is a shallow area of the pool, as well as a playground, and babysitting can be arranged upon request. The hotel is located next to the beautiful Cape Point Beach and maintains an area which is well serviced from the newly furnished beach bar.
Standard rooms are arranged in two-storey buildings throughout the gardens and are well equipped with telephone, television with video channel, hairdryer, mini-bar, safe, air-conditioning and shared balcony or terrace. Upgrades to larger Deluxe rooms, sleeping up to 3 people and with private balconies, as well as to the even larger Suites, are popular and available for a supplement.
Daytime activities include table tennis and other outdoor sporting activities plus there is a children's play area. After dinner you can enjoy a full programme of evening entertainment in winter with live music, shows and African dance troupes, and occasional entertainment during summer months.
Within the hotel there is a choice of two restaurants, one serving buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner, including Gambian delicacies, and the Buddha Restaurant & Lounge serving sushi, which is in an unrivalled position next to the ocean. Drinks are available from the elegant lounge, beach bar or pool bar which has its own pizza oven.
There is also an all-inclusive light upgrade option which is available until April 2016, including 3 buffet meals and 5 local alcoholic drinks daily plus complimentary soft and hot drinks throughout the day.
We recommend sampling the homemade lemongrass tea at the Ocean Bay Hotel which they grow, dry and make into the most refreshing iced tea drink.
In the vicinity, there are a couple of other hotels, local bars, small restaurants, shops and a craft market all within easy reach and the popular resort of Kololi is only a 15 minute taxi ride away.
Please note that a cash-free system within the hotel is in operation so that payment for all services and food/beverages are made via reception - VISA and Mastercard are accepted although there may be charges so cash may be the best option. There are also ATM machines which accept VISA cards in the vicinity.
