Bijilo
This is an unspoilt stretch of sand; and with only a couple of smaller hotels and no beach bars or restaurants it feels deserted and personal.
Kololi
The beach outside the Senegambia and Kairaba Hotels is suffering from coastal erosion but is still a lovely place to while away an afternoon of your winter holiday in the sunshine.
Kotu
A wide sandy beach, popular with hotel guests in the area. The area outside the Sunset Beach can change quite dramatically depending on the direction of the Kotu stream. Famed for spectacular sunsets.
Bakau & Fajara
This area of coastline is quite dramatic with red rock cliffs interspersed with small beaches. Care should be taken if swimming in this area.
Cape Point & Banjul
Magnificent broad and long sandy beaches that stretch into the distance, down to the Atlantic Ocean. Definitely two of the finest beaches in The Gambia.
Brufut
Despite the presence of the Sheraton hotel, the beach at Brufut is quiet and unspoilt - a real treat with great views along the coast to Bijilio and Kololi.
Sanyang
The beach here is fairly sheltered but has some rocky areas with beach bars dotted along the bay - it's a quiet place and very popular for a day trip.

Gunjur
Gunjur beach is ideal to watch local fisherman when the boats come in. For sunbathing you may need to move away from the activity to avoid upsetting the locals.
South Gambia & Kartong
Further south along the Atlantic coast you can be assured of some secluded and deserted beaches. The sand is golden with along this stretch, and the region is populated by local fishermen landing their boats. Be sure to find a secluded spot if wearing swimwear to avoid offending the locals.
