Saly
The seaside resort of Saly is located on the 'Petite Côte', found to the south of Dakar and the north of the Sine Saloum Delta. Originally a Portuguese trading post (and also known as Saly Portudal), it was in the early 1980s that French and Belgian tourists started to visit the resort, making the most of Saly’s beautiful palm-backed, wide sandy beaches - these have been replenished since 2020 through an international investment project so the beaches are once more a real feature of this resort.
Saly presents an ideal holiday destination for those in search of something a little different to your mainstream beach holiday destination. With its variety of hotels, a handful of bars, restaurants and shops, along with interesting local excursions and activities, there’s a welcoming and established feel throughout.
Hotels we offer in Saly are the fantastic Lamantin Beach Resort & Spa and the centrally located Royam Hotel. Keep an eye out for new properties, such as the renovated Palm Beach Hotel.
La Somone
The smaller resort of La Somone is only a short drive north of Saly and presents an idyllic location beside a stunning lagoon. Home to the Réserve de la Somone, this resort is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Nearby, you’ve also got the opportunity to visit the Bandia Nature Reserve, a small but perfectly formed wildlife park where you can witness giraffe, rhino, zebra, ostrich, antelope, buffalo, bush pigs, impala and many other birds and animals roaming free. There are also some attractive beaches in La Somone, presenting soft sand and calm waters.
For anyone in search of active pursuits, both Saly and La Somone have several excellent water sports centres, offering a range of activities such as jet skis, water skiing, catamarans, kayaks and windsurfing, and several excellent fishing clubs offering world-class deep-sea fishing. Quad and buggy tours or horse trekking are available in and around the resorts, and Saly is also home to an 18-hole golf course as well as the Accrobaobab Adventure Park, where you can climb, swing and slide on a series of nets and ropes amongst the baobab trees.
Due to the new Blaise Diagne International Airport, transfers to Saly and La Somone are extremely convenient. Located east of Dakar, you’re just 28km from Saly, and 30km from La Somone.
We currently offer hotel options in La Somone, the beachfront all-inclusive resort Royal Horizon Baobab Hotel is next to the lagoon, whilst Les Manguiers de Guéréo is a small eco-lodge situated inland but overlooking the lagoon.
