Coronavirus: latest news

Last updated: 25th March, 13:50

We are aware that the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has now advised British citizens to avoid all but essential travel to anywhere in the world. Over the past few days our focus has been on repatriating our customers who were in resort and getting them home safely.

We regret that we will no longer be operating flights or holidays between the UK and The Gambia from 23rd March to 22nd June 2020 as our customers' safety and wellbeing is our primary concern. If you were booked to travel with us on or before 30th April 2020, you will be able to amend your holiday to a later date (see Flexible Future Travel section below). We will be in contact with all these customers, in departure date order, to discuss their options.

We understand that this is an extremely stressful time, and are doing our utmost to answer all your questions. However, due to our phone lines being very busy, we ask that you please refrain from contacting us and rest assured that you will hear from a member of our team in due course.

Flexible future travel

Package bookings

If you have an existing package booking and were travelling on or before 30th April 2020, you can amend to any holiday that’s currently on sale up until 30th April 2021. If you choose a holiday that’s more expensive than your original booking, you’ll need to pay the difference and if you choose a holiday that’s cheaper than the one you originally booked, we’ll refund you the difference. We will also add a Loyalty Discount to your booking.

Alternatively, you may prefer a refund credit note to use within the next 12 months. If the FCO advice is extended and affects your new holiday dates, the same terms will again be offered, to ensure continued peace of mind. You can of course cancel your holiday and receive a refund, please allow 21 days for your refund to be processed.

Flight-only bookings

If you have an existing flight only booking and were travelling on or before 30th April 2020, you can amend your dates at no extra charge for travel up until 30th April 2021 (subject to availability and excluding peak dates over Christmas and New Year).

Alternatively, you may prefer a refund credit note to use within the next 12 months. If the FCO advice is extended and affects your new flight dates, the same terms will again be offered, to ensure continued peace of mind.

Information for individuals still in The Gambia

Global travel advice is changing rapidly due to the measures related to Covid-19. Click here for latest government advice for The Gambia, and to sign up for email alerts.

To speak to a consular member of staff, please call 4494508 and follow the prompts. To register your details with the consular office, please email ukinthegambia@fco.gov.uk. They will need the following information:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Contact number
  • Email address
  • Nationality and passport number
  • Location in The Gambia
  • Are you a resident or visitor?
  • Health (pre-existing medical conditions)
  • Are you seeking to be repatriated to the UK?

If your flight or holiday was curtailed

Following the change in advice by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on the 17th March 2020, restricting all but essential international travel, for the welfare and safety of our customers, we put in place immediate arrangements to repatriate our customers back to the UK as soon as possible. It was subsequently announced, by the Gambia government, that they were to close all airspace and land borders, effective midnight, on 23rd March, for 21 days.

As your trip was curtailed whilst you were in The Gambia, due to circumstances completely beyond our control, any claims for refunds of your travel, accommodation and any other elements, should be addressed to your travel insurers. This is the reason why we include the need for travel insurance within our booking terms and conditions.

Should your insurers require any further information in addition to this statement, your original invoice and the cancellation invoice (if you haven't already received this, it will be with you shortly),  please email admin@gambia.co.uk

We are grateful for your understanding in these unprecedented times and we sincerely hope we can welcome you back to The Gambia in the future.
