Find peace and tranquility in Tanji Eco-Lodge, the perfect base for lovers of birdlife, nature and the environment.

In the heart of Tanji Bird Reserve on The Gambia’s Atlantic coast this unique eco-lodge offers just four simple, circular brick-built lodges, all looking out across the Atlantic Ocean - the perfect base from where to get better acquainted with Gambian wildlife!

The Tanji reserve and the Tanji shore are both Government protected conservation areas and provide excellent opportunities for spotting numerous bird species as they contain a large variety of habitats in a relatively small area. A vast number of birds have been spotted here including Vieillot’s Barbet, African Golden Oriole, Northern Crombec, Variable Sunbird, Double-spurred Francolin, Northern Black Flycatcher, Caspian, Royal and Common Terns, Kelp Gull, Sanderling, Whimbrel and even a rare Audouin’s Gull.

A community-based project, Tanji Eco-Lodge is run and staffed by local people and despite its relative newness, it already feels like part of the landscape, thanks to the well thought out design and construction. And with solar power used for hot water, no energy-sapping air-conditioning and the use of local ingredients for meals (which you can enjoy in the shade of your own thatched cabana with a view of the ocean) this is a responsible choice when considering your next Gambian holiday.

The highlight of your stay here will no doubt be the wildlife, especially the prolific birdlife, but you are also likely to see antelope at the watering hole and maybe even the fabled local big cat!
