Our Expert Opinion
"The Balafon resort merges seamlessly with the fabulous sandy beach, where you'll find the bar and restaurant facing the ocean - what a great adult-only retreat in which to relax."

What we love
- The fabulous location directly facing the flat, sandy beach dotted with palm trees.
- The numerous swimming pools as well as a meandering lazy river and plunge pool with Jacuzzi, making this a very attractive property to wander through.
Good to know
- A Balafon is a traditional African wooden xylophone-type instrument.
- It is possible to upgrade to half board or full board, however there is a good range of eating options within walking distance or a short taxi-ride away in nearby Kololi.
A relaxing child-free haven
This attractive property is designed around a series of individual and meandering pools interspersed with traditionally thatched, circular buildings housing the spacious rooms. Upper floor accommodation has high ceilings giving a light and airy feel, while some of the ground floor split-level rooms have direct access to the water. All are well equipped and modern yet with African touches for a more authentic experience. There is a tranquil feel throughout with tropical gardens attracting a host of colourful birdlife, all adding to the sense of relaxation. Guests can upgrade to either a garden, pool or sea view room to enjoy from the comfort of their bungalow.
Dining next to the ocean
Two good-sized, freshwater swimming pools are available for guests along with a beachside bar and restaurant, making the most of the stunning views. The Bantaba Restaurant serves buffet breakfast along with freshly prepared dishes to order and an à la carte menu is available for lunch and dinner with a mix of African and continental cuisine. Themed evenings with music and the occasional barbecue add to the culinary options.
Idyllic beachfront location
One of the main draws is the direct beach access and the hotel blends perfectly with the long flat stretch of sand fronting the property, complete with palm trees and parasols and ideal for a romantic stroll or for watching the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel lies at Kololi Point which sits between the well-known resorts of Kololi and Kotu. Close by, you will find a good selection of small bars and restaurants along with a couple of hotels and the main Kololi strip offering a wider choice is easily reached just 2km away.
