The Ocean Bay provides a good level of accommodation in standard or deluxe rooms within beautiful gardens in a beachfront setting. The hotel is popular with couples and families and offers an all-inclusive light option.
The Ocean Bay, under new management since December 2013, enjoys an enviable beachfront setting. This popular hotel offers a good range of facilities - with a successful all-inclusive light option - and is a great choice for families or couples looking to simply relax and enjoy the Gambian sunshine.
The large swimming pool is the focal point of the hotel and for families there is a shallow area of the pool, a playground and babysitting can be arranged upon request. The hotel is located next to the beautiful Cape Point Beach and maintains an area which is well serviced from the beach bar.
Standard rooms are arranged in two-storey buildings throughout the gardens and are well equipped with telephone, television with video channel, hairdryer, mini-bar, safe, air-conditioning and shared balcony or terrace. Upgrades to larger Deluxe rooms, sleeping up to 3 people and with private balconies, as well as to the even larger Suites, are possible for a supplement.
Daytime activities include table tennis and other outdoor sporting activities plus there is a children's play area. After dinner you can enjoy a full programme of evening entertainment in winter with live music, shows and African dance troupes, and occasional entertainment during summer months.
Within the hotel there is a choice of two restaurants, one serving buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner, including Gambian delicacies, and the Red Croc à la carte restaurant and nightclub which is in an unrivalled position next to the ocean. Drinks are available from the elegant lounge, beach bar or pool bar which has its own pizza oven. There is also an all-inclusive light upgrade option which is proving very popular, including 3 buffet meals and 5 local alcoholic drinks daily plus complimentary soft and hot drinks throughout the day.
We recommend sampling the homemade lemongrass tea at the Ocean Bay Hotel which they grow, dry and make into the most refreshing iced tea drink.
In the vicinity, there are a couple of other hotels, local bars, small restaurants, shops and a craft market all within easy reach and the popular resort of Kololi is only a 15 minute taxi ride away. The hotel's official rating has recently been reclassified as 4+, however we believe our 4 grade rating based on customer feedback and our own assessment still reflects the facilities and service offered. The new management are undertaking some renovation work during Summer 2014 to maintain and improve the property.
Please note that a cash-free system within the hotel is in operation so that payment for all services and food/beverages are made via reception - VISA and Mastercard are accepted although there may be charges so cash may be the best option. There are also ATM machines which accept VISA cards in the vicinity.
