The Kombo Beach is a popular and lively hotel with good facilities, excellent cuisine and benefits from a superb beachfront setting at Kotu.
Situated on a great sandy beach, this is a well-established, lively hotel which has a full time entertainment team and plenty of activities throughout the day and evening to keep you occupied. However, with the beach just a few steps away and spacious gardens, there is space to lay back and relax if you prefer.
Whatever your interests, you should find something to suit at the Kombo Beach - during the day you can join in with pool games or aerobics, take tennis lessons or wander around the tropical gardens doing a little birdwatching with the resident guide. If all that sounds too much like hard work, why not pamper yourself with a massage or treatment at the beauty salon? And after a busy day, what better way to unwind than with a drink at the hotel’s beachside Wine Bar, which is one of the best places to watch the sun set whilst enjoying a Julbrew, The Gambia’s locally produced beer. In the evening there is usually entertainment beside the pool with live local bands, themed dinners or dancing.
The rooms are set within three-storey buildings amongst the gardens with private terraces or balconies, where you can sit and listen to the ocean. There are several room options in the hotel, all now with duvets: the spacious standard rooms are fairly basic, however all have individual air-conditioning units, operated by remote control, as well as telephones, mini-fridge and hairdryers (on request). Their spacious feel is enhanced by the large picture windows with either a private balcony or patio. Superior rooms and Suites are located on both the first and second floors and Premium rooms on the ground floor; all upgraded rooms are furnished to a higher standard with a free safe, hairdryer as standard, tea & coffee-making facilities and fridges. Upgrade rooms in particular were often full last winter so early booking is recommended to ensure your preferred room choice. Ground floor studios face the tennis courts, are open-plan offering kitchen facilities and are ideal for families.
The hotel boasts two restaurants and two snack bars serving throughout the day and evening, along with two bars for a refreshing drink. Breakfast and buffet dinner (for those on half board) are served in the attractive Kudula Restaurant under a canopy, while a more intimate atmosphere can be found in The Brasserie with its à la carte menu and daily specials. Gecko's offers a snack bar service, including a range of hot and cold snacks, ice creams and pizzas throughout the day which can be served to you by the pool or on the beach. Barracuda beachside bar offers daytime drinks and sandwiches. A cash-free system operates within the hotel.
The resort of Kotu has become increasingly popular in recent years and there are a couple of other hotels with restaurants open to outside guests, a craft market, beach bars, a small selection of local restaurants, and a taxi rank just outside the hotel so it’s easy to get out and about.
This is a good fun hotel, popular with families, couples and groups. Due to its location, the range of facilities and choice of cuisine on offer, the Kombo Beach is very popular with new and repeat guests alike. It continues to hold a Travelife Gold Award for its efforts in sustainable tourism.
