EXCURSIONS & EXPERIENCES

Away from the charms of the endless beaches and the allure of the hotel swimming pools, The Gambia is a diverse and easy to explore country. It's all there waiting for you - all you need to do is get out there and see it! We offer a number of great excursions that enable you to explore further afield, but you can always hire a private guide for a day, or jump in a taxi - most drivers will gladly take you wherever you want to go and wait to bring you back.

Making the most of The Gambia

We're of the opinion that if you're going to come all the way to Africa you might as well see some of the continent whilst you're here!

Yellow taxis

How can I get around?

Most hotels have a taxi rank nearby. It is best to agree the price in advance and there should be a price board displaying the tariffs. Although taxis are regulated, many wouldn't pass a UK MOT test! The only public transport are Bush Taxis which cover the main routes and some bush roads, but do not run to a schedule. They are cheap and very over-crowded but are a great way of absorbing the local flavour.

Private Hire

If you have an idea of places you'd like to visit, speak to your representative in resort and you'll find you can book a private guide with relative ease. You can plan an itinerary, agree a price and your driver will stay with you all day and take you wherever you need to go. It's a great - and relatively cheap - way, to see The Gambia.

Your Security

The Gambia is generally speaking a very safe country, and taxis and Bush Taxis are all regulated by the government. Similarly, if you check with your representative and hotel first, you'll find all private guides helpful and respectful. As in any foreign destination, always keep your belongings with you and take care at all times.

This was our first visit to The Gambia and it was a great holiday. The friendliness of the staff was overwhelming! Our hotel exceeded expectations and we would definitely stay there again. Fantastic area for birding!
