You may wish to escape and simply relax in the calm and tranquillity of the Sine Saloum Delta, or experience the sun and sea resorts of the Saly area. Or maybe you are looking for something a little more adventurous, or would like to explore the country more thoroughly while you are here? Either way, Senegal has a great deal to offer, and a variety of ways of experiencing it, some of which are detailed below.
Trips Through the Bush
Thanks to its relatively small size, Senegal is quite an easy country to navigate and you can see a good portion of it in a short space of time if you plan well and use the right mode of transport. For getting further afield 4x4 tours are available, and using these you can get to the remoter parts of the country, and explore the landscapes of the interior. Local exploration is also possible and you’ll find it easy to hire a guide for bush walking.
Birdwatching
Senegal attracts an abundance of birds and provides some perfect conditions for watching them as well. This particularly applies to the Sine Saloum Delta, which has a unique estuarine environment due to the confluence of three rivers. The birdlife on this part of the coast is at times overwhelming and a true sight to behold.
Pirogues and Fishing
The Sine Saloum Delta, with its labyrinthine waterways and lagoon is also the perfect place for exploring on canoes and pirogues – and you might even want to indulge in a spot of fishing. Whichever you fancy there are always guides on hand with local information to aid and assist you.
Watersports
Senegal has some of the best conditions for watersports anywhere in West Africa. It has some internationally renowned surf breaks, excellent scuba diving and snorkelling and some great winds, which make for some fine windsurfing conditions. The water is also clear and calm in places and excellent for swimming.
