What We Think
We are delighted to once again feature Hibiscus House - a small, well-maintained, family-run hotel set in the heart of the African village of Brufut. This charming property can be considered as 'a stepping stone to explore the real Gambia,' due to the excellent relationship it shares with the local villagers. The English owners will use their first-hand knowledge to assist you in getting the most out of your stay. On entering the hotel, you will discover a relaxing, comfortable environment set within beautiful, tropical gardens and be sure of a warm welcome.
Hibiscus House has a very intimate feel with only 8 individually designed rooms, located around the small swimming pool and Jacuzzi. All rooms have en suite shower rooms and private terraces. There are 6 twin Garden Rooms, the Cassurina or Junior Suite, and the Hibiscus Suite, which is split over 2 floors with a small garden and can sleep up to 4, making it ideal for families. All rooms have tea and coffee-making facilities and upgraded rooms also include a fridge for guests' convenience.
The property offers a choice of continental or cooked breakfast, plus a good selection of dishes on its menus for lunch and dinner - inspired by both African and International cuisine. Meals are prepared using fresh local produce and the hotel can cater for most special dietary requirements and requests. Dining can be enjoyed in a variety of locations around the hotel, including at the poolside or in the bantaba or 'meeting place'. There are also 2 bars to choose from, where you can unwind after a hot day in the Gambian sun.
Holistic Treatments are available for residents and visitors of Hibiscus House, with a combination of Eastern and Western treatments offered, with some unique features including Indian Head Massage, Reflexology and Reiki. These treatments are carried out in the surrounds of the new Holistic Garden by trained clinical holistic therapist, Susan Clifford-Webb.
Although not directly on a beach, the nearest one close to The Sheraton is a short taxi ride away; the hotel does also provide transport to and from all local beaches, such as the quiet Batakunku Beach which has a local beach bar and restaurant.
This hotel is full of character and is ideal for couples looking for peace and relaxation, yet with the opportunity to explore the local village community and experience the Gambian way of life.
