What We Think
The Ocean Bay sits within beautiful gardens in a beachfront setting. This popular hotel offers a good range of facilities - now with a new all-inclusive light option - and is a great choice for families or couples looking to simply relax and enjoy the Gambian sunshine.
The large swimming pool is the focal point of the hotel and for families there is a shallow area of the pool, a playground and babysitting can be arranged upon request. The hotel is located next to the beautiful Cape Point Beach and maintains an area which is well serviced from the beach bar.
The rooms are furnished in dark wood and provide a high standard of accommodation. They are arranged in two storey buildings throughout the gardens and are equipped with telephone, television with video channel, hairdryer, mini-bar, safe, air-conditioning and balcony or terrace.
Daytime activities include darts, table tennis and other outdoor sporting activities plus there is a library if you wish to find a quiet corner out of the sun. After dinner you can enjoy a full programme of evening entertainment with live music, shows and African dance troupes.
Within the hotel there is a choice of two restaurants, one serving buffet style breakfast and dinner, including Gambian delicacies, and the Ocean Clipper à la carte, which is in an unrivalled position next to the ocean. Drinks are available from the elegant lounge, pool bar or beach bar with its own pizza oven. New for winter 2011/12 is an all-inclusive light upgrade option, including 3 buffet meals accompanied by a couple of selected alcoholic or soft drinks with lunch and dinner, plus complimentary soft drinks throughout the day.
In the vicinity, there are a couple of other hotels, local bars, small restaurants, shops and a craft market all within easy reach and the popular resort of Kololi is only a 15 minute taxi ride away. Although the hotel is officially graded as 5*, we believe our 4* rating based more in the international standards better reflects the facilities and service offered.
In February 2011, a cash-free system within the hotel was introduced so that payment for all services and food/beverages are now made via reception.
