What We Think
Situated on a great sandy beach, this is a well-established, lively hotel which has a full time entertainment team and plenty of activities throughout the day and evening to keep you occupied. However, with the beach just a few steps away and spacious gardens, there is space to lay back and relax if you prefer.
Whatever your interest you should find something to suit at the Kombo Beach - during the day you can join in with pool games or aerobics, take tennis lessons or wander around the tropical gardens doing a little birdwatching with the resident guide. If all that sounds too much like hard work, why not pamper yourself with a massage or treatment at the beauty salon? And after a busy day, what better way to unwind than with a drink at the hotel’s beachside Wine Bar, which is one of the best places to watch the sun set whilst enjoying a Julbrew, The Gambia’s locally produced beer. In the evening there is usually entertainment beside the pool with live local bands, themed dinners or dancing.
The rooms are set within three-storey buildings amongst the gardens with private terraces or balconies, where you can sit and listen to the ocean. There are several room options in the hotel. The spacious standard rooms are fairly basic however all have individual air-conditioning units, operated by remote control, as well as telephones, mini fridge and hairdryers (on request in standard rooms). They are furnished in an African style and have a spacious feel, enhanced by the large picture windows with either a private balcony or patio. Superior rooms and Suites are located on both the first and second floors and Premium rooms on the ground floor; all upgraded rooms are furnished to a higher standard and with a free safe, tea & coffee-making facilities and fridges. New for winter 2011/12 are ground floor studios, offering kitchen facilities, which are ideal for families - these are located opposite the tennis courts.
The resort of Kotu has become increasingly popular in recent years and there are a couple of other hotels, a craft market, beach bars, a small selection of restaurants, and a taxi rank just outside the hotel so it’s easy to get out and about. This is a good fun hotel, popular with families, couples and groups.
There are three restaurants and three bars in the hotel serving a wide variety of food, each with a very different atmosphere. Breakfast and buffet dinner are served in the refurbished Kudula Restaurant under a canopy, while a more relaxed atmosphere can be found in The Brasserie with its a la carte menu and daily specials, where evening meals or drinks are taken overlooking the ocean whilst listening to live music. Gecko's offers a snack bar service, including a range of snacks, ice creams and pizzas throughout the day which can be served to you by the pool or on the beach. Alternatively, a dine-around package is available offering the flexibility of dining outside of the hotel at one of a selection of restaurants in Kotu or Kololi (transportation not included) for 3 evenings each week, as part of your half board package - the remaining 4 nights are taken in the main half board Kudula restaurant in the hotel. A cash free system operates within the hotel.
Due to its location, the range of facilities and choice of cuisine on offer, the Kombo Beach is very popular with new and repeat guests alike. It has also been awarded the Travelife Gold Award until 2013 for its efforts in sustainable tourism.
