What We Think
Located approximately 4 kilometres from the coast, this small property of only thirteen comfortable suites offers an oasis of calm, despite being surrounded by examples of traditional Gambian life for you to discover. You may wish to visit to a local school, or a compound, perhaps watch skilled craftsmen to learn more about their trades; alternatively you could simply choose to wander the safe village streets absorbing the colour and flavour of Africa or visit one of a selection of unspoilt, sandy beaches - the choice is yours. On your return, why not relax by the pool or in a hammock in the gardens with a refreshing drink within the tranquil haven of the hotel; or enjoy a relaxing massage or manicure in the comfort of your suite? You can do as much or as little as you choose...
The spacious, open-plan pool suites, each with their own external seating area, frame the small, inviting swimming pool, whilst two bedroom Presidential suites offer an alternative for two couples or families looking for a large living space. All the suites highlight the owner Peter's interest in collecting unusual items and house examples of African artwork and wood carvings giving them added appeal.
Dining at the Omakan is a real treat with daily changing menus served in an elegant, intimate setting close to the pool. For a special occasion, why not have breakfast on your terrace or even dinner on the beach (extra charge).
With only a small number of suites, you are ensured of a warm welcome and an exclusive experience at this delightful property, with the added appeal of a chance to learn about the Gambian way of life. The Omakan would be ideal either as an add-on to a beach hotel or as a stand-alone holiday.
The Personal Touch...
Belgian owner, Peter, and his staff will greet you with a warm welcome and will be on hand to attend to your every need, starting with meeting you at the airport to transfer you directly by air-conditioned vehicle back to the Omakan. You will be introduced to the staff who will be available to accompany you on walking tours of the local area during your stay, allowing you to really experience how a small African community goes about its daily life. In addition, Peter is happy to tailor-make day trips to enable you to sample some of The Gambia during your stay in this 'home from home.'
