What We Think
The ever popular African Village hotel continues to attract a high number of repeat guests each year with its relaxed and friendly atmosphere, small intimate layout, imaginatively designed pool with central bar and surrounding sun terraces, and the chance to interact with the local community in the bustling coastal town of Bakau.
Standard rooms are fairly small and simply furnished with many situated in thatched, round bungalows surrounded by colourful plants, creating a traditional Gambian village ambience. Slightly larger sea view rooms are also available at a supplement with fantastic views of the ocean from their cliff top setting. A limited number of smaller rooms are available for single occupancy without the single supplement.
Guests dine in the restaurant which benefits from stunning views from its elevated position overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The terrace outside the restaurant is a wonderful place to enjoy an early evening drink while watching the sun set - a quintessential experience of The Gambia. If you wish to experience more of the local area, there are a number of local bars and restaurants close by as well as a busy market.
There is no natural beach at the hotel but a sand covered, man-made sunbathing area has been created beside the ocean which is reached via steep steps. There is also an attractive pool area with a circular bar right in the centre so there's no need to go too far for a refreshing drink.
Offering good value, this small hotel has a central location in the bustling town of Bakau and is ideal for those who prefer a more authentic African experience and attracts a larger number of repeat clients returning year after year.
