Lovingly designed and created by the owners of the elegant Coconut Residence, this boutique hotel imaginatively combines different architectural styles and unique features with impressive results. Moorish elements such as domes and arches blend perfectly with the swaying palms and tropical flowering plants, which grow in abundance. The emphasis on comfort and space throughout the high quality suites and public areas create a relaxing and serene environment from which to enjoy the spectacular views towards the unspoilt sandy beach. This would be the perfect choice for a honeymoon or anyone celebrating a special occasion, and several weddings have already taken place within the hotel and gardens.

The suites and penthouses are located in the Cony and Papaya residences built into the hillside overlooking the 3 tiered swimming pools linked by fountains and flowing streams. All are extremely light and airy with high ceilings and spacious indoor and/or outdoor seating areas. They are all slightly different in design to make the most of the sea views on offer from some of the rooms, with others overlooking the tropical gardens. All include bathrobes and slippers and complimentary maid service to unpack and iron any essential item on arrival and all have double basins in the ample bathroom. There are 4 Royal Suites each with its own private plunge pool, with Royal penthouses above (a Royal suite and penthouse can be booked together for larger groups but are self-contained units). 14 Club Villas stand in 2 rows, some with partial sea view and each with an enormous outdoor shaded seating area. These share their own pool with sun terraces and area of beach for an even more exclusive experience, along with guests from the 3 impressive new Beach Houses which stand directly overlooking the beach. There is also a central tiered swimming pool for all guests. Steps and sloping pathways link the areas with golf buggies available.

The quality of cuisine on offer is sure to tempt even the most discerning guest. Fresh ingredients are used wherever possible, many from the hotel’s own gardens. There are a number of restaurants to choose from offering a wide variety of cuisine. The Courtyard where guests can enjoy a leisurely champagne breakfast or dinner al fresco, the Safron restaurant is an inside alternative with an impressive wine cellar and a beach restaurant with an unbeatable location provides a lunchtime grill and Thai cuisine in the evening. Half board guests have the choice of dining in any of these restaurants, plus the Avocado restaurant at the Coconut Residence, at no extra charge.  A new, fine dining restaurant is planned in the future which will be available at a supplement.

The 1800sq metre, adult-only Spa facility is an integral part of the property with a full range of treatments on offer by specialist therapists from around the world, as well as a gym and exercise classes. Again, the exciting use of colour and light which is evident throughout the property create an atmosphere perfect for relaxation and enjoyment with a central relaxation area surrounding the Spa pool. Our clients receive a complimentary foot massage treatment during their stay.

The success and popularity of this hotel are already apparent and an unobtrusive second phase of development is well underway to add a further 10 deluxe suites during summer 2010.

The Coco Ocean occupies an enviable position on a wide stretch of unspoilt beach, next to Bijilo Forest Park Nature Reserve, famous for its green vervet and red colobus monkeys, and the Bijilo Beach hotel. Although there is little activity directly outside the hotel to spoil the peace and tranquility, a 20-minute walk along the sandy beach, or a short taxi ride will bring you to the resort of Kololi with its wide selection of bars and restaurants.

The Coco Ocean Spa provides a full range of professional treatments in nine luxurious treatment rooms overlooking the beach in Bijilo, The Gambia. There are also double massage beds, Hammam, sauna, ice cold plunge pool, wet and dry body treatment area. The Health & Awareness Centre also offers gym, pilates, yoga and a relaxation area – please see below. The spa opened in December 2008 and has already received excellent reviews from clients and the media. Therapists are trained to a high standard to ensure you return from your holiday completely refreshed with a feeling of total well being. The treatments incorporate essences of plants, aromas of healing flowers, elements of the ocean and Aloe vera plants grown on the premises – all blended from traditional recipes into modern day beauty rituals. With all treatments you will be provided with a bathrobe, slippers, shower cap and towels.
