The Sheraton Gambia Hotel is built into the hillside, nestled between giant Baobab trees, directly on the beach.
The appeal of the hotel is obvious as soon as you step into the impressive reception with views down to the pool area and beach below through huge full length windows. The lower level of the hotel is situated next to the unspoilt beach with lawns surrounding the large swimming pool. There are many pathways and steps within the hotel although golf buggies are in operation and there are two glass lifts connecting the reception, Cremetata buffet restaurant and the pool/bar area.
The rooms are all sea facing and very comfortably furnished with all the modern amenities you would expect from a hotel of this quality. There are 2 wings: the Baobab Wing is closer to the main building and restaurants and houses the standard Classic rooms which are well appointed but compact. These are located on the cliff top overlooking the Sunset Boabab rooms and, lower down on the beach in 2 storey buildings, the Beach Boabab rooms. The tranquil, more exclusive Palm Wing houses the cliff top Sunset Palm rooms as well as superbly located, beachfront Beach Palm rooms, both of which are larger with a lounge area and offer uninterrupted ocean views from both ground and upper floors.
The Crematata restaurant serves full buffet breakfasts and evening meals whilst the outdoor Balafon offers à la carte dining in a relaxed setting. The Bar A Cuda pool bar serves drinks and snacks throughout the day, with an alternative bar in the lobby lounge area which enjoys stunning sea views.
The Spa is located in a separate building with indoor and outdoor treatment areas, from where you can enjoy a massage overlooking the sea. There are excellent gym facilities with a programme of exercise classes also available.
The hotel is located near the quiet residential village of Brufut with a courtesy bus service twice daily to the more lively resort of Kololi, just a 10 minute taxi ride away. This Sheraton property has been developed largely as a leisure hotel, and gym and spa facilities are proving popular with guests, however it may not compare in some ways to Sheraton hotels in other destinations.
