Hotel Description

The Sheraton Gambia Hotel is situated on an untouched stretch of the Gambian coast, surrounded by stunning palms and exotic baobab trees; it offers a secluded paradise with golden sands and a large infinity swimming pool.

It is located in a very quiet area just outside the residential village of Brufut; for those looking for dining or shopping options, the lively resort of Kololi is a 10 minute taxi ride away.

Guests can enjoy extremely comfortable surroundings and a high quality of room amenities in the 195 guest rooms, all with sea views, including six Junior Suites and a Presidential Suite (with 2 units which can be used either as one entire suite or 2 individual suites and possesses its own swimming-pool). There are 2 wings; the Baobab Wing is closer to the main building and restaurants with Classic rooms located here, whilst the more exclusive and larger Palm Wing rooms make more of the stunning beach location, especially Beach Palm rooms which open directly onto the beach with unspoilt views of the ocean.

The hotel is ideal for conferences and special events can be arranged for up to 800 people in the 600-square metre ballroom or eight additional meeting rooms.

Guests can experience the delicious cuisine at the hotel's restaurants: Crematata, the main buffet restaurant, is open for breakfast and dinner, and there is also a speciality outdoor restaurant featuring a combination of steak and fresh seafood dishes. During the day, you can choose to lounge by the pool and enjoy a treat at the snack bar. This becomes the main bar in the evenings and there is also a bar service in the lobby lounge area.

The Sheraton chain has a formidable reputation and in many respects its presence in The Gambia is an incongruous one there are other large chain hotels here, but none as symbolically imposing or of such international renown. Yet perhaps this isn't an incongruity at all, and The Sheraton's presence is a sign of just how far The Gambia has come as a tourist destination, and where it might be heading in the future. Whichever of these is true, the hotel is certainly an impressive edifice and it enjoys a quite stunning location, set in a herd of Baobab trees on the still-untouched coast near Brufut...

Hotel Review

I expected The Sheraton to be a really big 5 star chain hotel perhaps lacking in character, but this is a great, an outstanding hotel. I loved the fact its on its own private beautiful beach with the most stunning sunset and peaceful setting, although I did feel as though I could have been anywhere in the world, apart from the smiley hotel security chaps walking past every so often!
