Tuesday saw the start of a month of fasting for the majority of Gambians as Muslims across the world celebrate one of the most important festivals of the Islamic faith, Ramadan.
All healthy Muslims, excluding young children and pregnant women, are required to fast during daylight hours and must also refrain from all other sinful acts and anything that can cause a distraction from concentrating on Allah. It is a time for caring and sharing, for considering others and contemplating one’s faith.
