Intercontinental Airways will begin its operations from the Gambia on the 15th next month, flying to several destinations including Freetown in Sierra Leone, Dakar in Senegal, Abidjan in Ivory Coast, Accra in Ghana and Lome in Togo.
The company, which currently owns two 737 aircrafts, also plans to expand its network to other destinations outside Africa in the future, such as Ireland, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, US, UK and Dubai.
While the arrival of a new airline in the industry will certainly offer travellers a wider choice of destinations and introduce competition between airlines and therefore lower the prices, it is also expected to create jobs for the local population.
The managing director of Intercontinental Airways, Captain Walter Okakpu, said: "Initially we will be operating with foreign pilots while our pilots undergo training. This is a unique opportunity for those who want to work hard to come and join us."
