The Gambia will host Miss Black USA competition for the second time in June this year, the Broward Times reports.
Every year, black women from all around the US compete for the title. The event was held outside of the States for the first time in 2007.
The first competition took place in Washington in 1987 at the JW Marriott hotel ballroom and has become a very popular event.
Its mission is to "provide educational opportunities to outstanding young women of colour and to develop the whole woman mind, body, and spirit".
Last year's winner was Kalilah Allen-Harris, who became Miss Black USA 2007 in Gambia.
This year's competitors include Eunice Cofie, 27, who won the title of Miss Black Florida USA last year.
She told the Broward Times: "The mission of the Miss Black USA organisation is all about empowering young women. That being one of my lifes missions, I decided to get involved."
Eunice has been promoting the prevention of childhood obesity through the project Health (Health, Education and Life Transforming Habits) since she won the title.
