The Rotary Club of Banjul in Gambia has been given a cheque worth £4,465.50 to support its Science Laboratories Project.
As reported by the Daily Observer, the cheque was given to former Rotary Club president Goree-Ndiaye at a ceremony at the head office of Total in Banjul last Friday.
Albert Roger Boum, managing director of the oil company, said he was honoured to be involved into the project which aims at providing facilities for secondary school students studying science in the Greater Banjul Area.
The scheme, which started two years ago, had already received a contribution of around £22,318.88 from Yahya Jammeh, president of the Jammeh Foundation for Peace and Development.
To thank Total's support, Goree-Ndiaye presented Albert Roger Boum with a certificate and a framed copy stating the Rotary's mission.
Since 1974, the club has been involved in numerous projects aiming at improving the quality of life of many Gambians through community-based projects.
The Secondary Schools Science Laboratories Project tries to support the National Education Policy of promoting and developing computer and scientific education in schools in Gambia.
The overall project's cost has been estimated at about £160,695.936.
