Eco-tourism looks set to be placed firmly on the agenda in Gambia as animal enthusiasts draw support for the country's wildlife.
The Crocodile Pool at Kartong is an area ripe for development, according to members of the local community who have called on the Department of State Tourism for investment.
Improving the region would not only help to protect the region's wildlife, but would also provide an opportunity for eco-tourism, the Freedom newspaper claims.
Work to improve the region is currently underway, although the newspaper has joined forces with the local community to call for more to be made of the great potential of the pool and its surrounding area.
"Some people from the Tourism and Art Sector visited the place recently to assess the need for help in the place," wrote the newspaper's Buba TT Mendy
"If this is opened and maintained, it would be another source of income for the area and the country."
Kartong is a popular destination for tourists and boasts attractions including a golden beach and the Gambia Reptiles Farm.
