The Gambia delegation to the first-ever tourism trade fair has returned home with a spring in its step, having scooped two awards and further strengthened the country's relationship with Senegal.
Organised by ASSET of The Gambia and ONITS of Senegal, the fair ended with both countries resolving to continue to integrate their commerce and trade and allow free movement of people, goods and services within the West African sub-region.
The Point newspaper reports that Gambian fashion designers were honoured with an award, while Gambia Solar won the prize for the best responsible tourism stand.
Side events at the fair focused on environmental issues. Last week, Gambia's secretary of state for tourism has committed the West African country to responsible tourism.
Speaking at the event, Adama Bah, the chairman of ASSET, urged tourism stakeholders in both countries to work to broaden the tourism market, improve standards and ensure rotational use of natural resources.
