Gambia's Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture, Angela Colley, has opened a new hotel.
The Lemon Creek Hotel in Bijilo, along the Kombo Coastal Road, is valued at seven million dalasi (£185,619).
First conceived in 2005, the opening marks the completion of the first building phase, according to allAfrica.com. The Spanish-African style development comprises four blocks, two suites and 38 rooms. The second phase will be of a similar magnitude.
Ms Colley said: "If the Gambia is to compete and position herself firmly in this dynamic business of tourism, we must continuously strive to craft new products to meet the ever-changing tastes of discerning travellers and visitors to our beautiful country."
She added: "I want to seize this opportunity to emphasise that this project, though a private investment further underpins our strong desire to revitalise tourism in terms of quality and standards."
Kaliba Senghore, the director-general of the Gambia Tourism Authority, was also present, along with a host of local government officials.
