The winners of Gambia's Arts and Craft Competition 2007 have been announced.
Four prizes were awarded by the Association of Small Scale Enterprises in Tourism (ASSET) at the Cultural Encounter at Timbooktoo Bookshop, Bakau, allAfrica.com reports.
Kaliba Senghore, the director general of Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA), said the competition was designed to improve the quality of art and craft products and also to promote responsible tourism in the Gambia.
The winners in the Decorative category were Malick Ceesay and 'Monkey Business', who each received a cash prize of 7,500 Gambian Dalasi (£199) and a certificate. In the practical category, Equi-Gambia went home with £265. They were followed by Paper Recycling Skills Project who got a cash price of £132.
Anna of Top Shop and Karri from Marouns Supermarket were on the judging panel.
The first competition was held in 2005 at the Alliance Franco Gambinne.
