The number of Scandinavian visitors to the Gambia is expected to soar with the introduction of more flights from Finland , Norway , Denmark and Sweden.
Lamin Satio, marketing director at the Gambia Tourism Authority, told allAfrica.com he was anticipating a successful tourist season, partly driven by an increase in UK visitors.
Some 211 tourists recently arrived from Finland via the Banjul International Airport in Yundum. And some 850 more are expected on flights from Scandinavia.
Tourists are expected to stay in a range of hotels, including Senegambia , Kairaba, Sheraton and Tafbel.
Charbel Hobeika, managing director of the Gambia Tours, said: "The season looks very good and the volume is going to be very high and hotels will even be fully booked and even hoping not to be over-booked. We really hope for a fruitful and successful season."
Just a six-hour flight from London, the Gambia is an increasingly popular destination for Brits visiting the 'smiling coast' of west Africa.
