Gambia's secretary of state for tourism and culture has announced plans for more development to bolster the country's popularity with tourists.
Angela Colley plans to expand the thriving industry by building tourist facilities in areas that are currently rural, the Foroyaa newspaper reports.
She made the revelation in an answer to a question from Bora Mass, the member for Kiang East. He asked how the government planned to improve the provincial tourism industry,
In her response, Ms Colley emphasised the need for rural communities to enjoy the benefits of the tourist trade - and for tourists to have access to all of Gambia's wonders.
"The Department of State and the Gambia Tourism Authority will also encourage investment in ecologies and other forms of tourist accommodation along the banks of the River Gambia," she said.
"We feel that in order to give the tourists a fuller picture of the Gambia - and to enable the experience of the true and real Gambia, we must sample the hospitality of the entire country."
