May and June are classed as the summer season in The Gambia but these are good months to travel as the weather remains much the same as throughout winter with average temperatures of 30°C and around 9 hours of sunshine a day. The rains may come towards the end of June, but these tend to be short sharp bursts of dramatic rain storms rather than a monsoon season, often occuring at night. As the summer continues, the countryside becomes much greener with beautiful colourful flowers and many species of butterfly.
Summer also tends to be quieter, but this means uncrowded beaches for you to enjoy and you can experience the destination's sights and sounds along with its vibrant culture unspoilt by hoards of tourists. We provide an organised excursion programme or, for the more adventurous, can recommend some memorable days out, such as visiting a local school or Spa, so you can make the most of your stay on the Smiling Coast.
