This is one of the most beautiful regions of Senegal, situated approximately 200km south of Dakar, which consists of a maze of islands, lagoons, mangroves, forest and salt water creeks. It encompasses the Saloum Delta National Park, which was created in 1976 and is Senegal's second largest national park, stretching over an area of 76,000 hectares.
The Sine Saloum Delta is home to a stunning variety of birds, such as flamingos, pelicans, herons, gulls, terns, egrets and avocets, 36 mammal species such as warthogs, hyenas, monkeys, baboons, manatees and dolphins, and many types of fish and sea turtles. With so much to offer, it is becoming increasingly popular with holidaymakers, birdwatchers and fishermen.
