Senegal is an ex French colony and lies somewhere between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator and enjoys a fairly steady year-round climate, with a short wet period between the months of June and September. This climate ensures that there is some ideal weather for sunbathing and swimming in the clear seas. Yet the country also has three large rivers and these converge on the Sine Saloum delta and provide some unique habitats for a variety of wildlife.
What Senegal also has in abundance is a deep lying sense of its culture and this cultural prominence is what draws many people back to Senegal time and time again. The cultural makeup is a heady mix of the local and the imported – both from the French colonialists and also the Islamic marabouts that drifted down to this area from Northern Africa. You can see this mix in the clothing, the architecture, the language and of course in the Senegalese music scene, which is amongst the most vibrant anywhere in the world.
With an ever-shining sun, beautiful scenery, a relaxed pace of life and excellent hospitality, Senegal is just waiting to be discovered.
