Winter Sun & Summer Holidays

The Gambia is primarily known as a winter sun destination - visited by people looking to escape the cold of the European winter. But in truth, despite the notion of a 'rainy season', The Gambia is an all year round destination with the summer months proving increasingly popular in recent times.

Winter Sun Holidays in The Gambia

From November to April The Gambia is particularly popular with visitors from the UK and Europe seeking a break from the gloom of winter and looking to soak up some winter sun - taking advantage of the hot and virtually rain-free climate The Gambia enjoys.

Maximum average temperatures during the ‘winter’ are around 32-33° C  (high 80s F), with an average of 8 –10 hours sunshine per day.

During the winter months you will find the resort areas are in full swing, with hotels generally full and a wide range of restaurants and bars open. It can truly be said that The Gambia comes alive during these months, and the atmosphere around the resorts is one of laid back animation. That said, compared to say The Canaries, The Gambia does not feel overcrowded even in peak winter sun season.
