The Gambia is quite a social destination, where the sunshine seems to make people all the more relaxed. So if you like to meet other people then The Gambia is great, but if you just want to spend time together then there are enough restaurants to choose from and enough secluded spots on the beaches to enjoy some peace and quiet.
The standard and range of restaurants is improving all the time, and you'll find everything from traditional Gambian food to Italian, Indian and much more. As for the nightlife, compared to some other countries it can be low-key, but there is generally entertainment in the hotels - be it drum troupes or small groups - and down on the Kololi strip you'll find plenty of bars and clubs to keep you going through the night.
