You will see local goods being produced and also get a glimpse of the fantastic charity work benefiting the people of The Gambia.
The day starts in Serrekunda, the most densely populated town in The Gambia, with a demonstration of the traditional tie-dye and batik skills.
The next stop is the SOS Children's Village, the only one in The Gambia but one of many in developing countries around the world. The children are orphaned or abandoned where the extended family system cannot assist. Ages range from babies to 22 year olds. They are taken into home like environments with a "mother" and given a full education.
From here we travel to the Health Centre and Birth Clinic in Sukata, which takes care of around 250 patients per week from 13 villages, for a brief talk on the health system. The morning is completed with a walk around a plantation of local fruits including bananas, cashew, pawpaw and mango. There will be time to sample a variety of the locally produced fruit liqueurs before returning to the hotels for about 1pm.
Please note this excursion will only run from November - April.
