The day starts with a short journey to Banjul to experience the hustle and bustle of the port before boarding the ferry for approximately 45 minutes, crossing to Barra on the north bank of the River Gambia. The ferry crossing is an experience in itself - it’s often very crowded, but colourful. After meeting our 4WD truck, the journey continues to the border with Senegal where you will have your passport checked and stamped before continuing on. Once in the park we are introduced to our Ranger as we are welcomed into the Fathala nature reserve, currently 2000 acres of bush which many species of African wildlife have now made home. In our contained vehicle we are able to follow the tracks through the wilderness to spot some of the animals that roam the area.
In just a day it is possible to spot giraffe, rhino, zebra, antelope and buffalo to mention a few, how lucky will you be? You’ll have a great chance to take a memory of Africa home - don't go without your camera, this may be your chance to take some amazing pictures!
During the day we expect to have the chance to set up picnic in the wild where we will have a small lunch prepared and drinks are on hand to buy throughout the day.
Go on, be a part of Africa that you will remember forever!
Please note this can be a long day and the journey to and from the reserve is as much a part of the overall experience of this trip as the wildlife seen. Due to erratic ferry times, patience is needed whilst waiting to board. This excursion is not recommended for young children, the elderly or disabled.
