25 Years - Funding

When we announced, that for our 25th year of operating in The Gambia, The Gambia Experience was donating £25,000 to UK or Gambia based charitable and sustainable projects we were unsure of the levels of reponse we might get. To say the response has been positive is something of an understatement. We've long been aware that there a good number of charities working within The Gambia but to find out that there are so many more, and working in such diverse areas, is heartening.

With so many worthwhile projects applying, we have been hugely oversubscribed with nearly 60 applications requesting donations of over £165,000. The panel of judges have therefore had some difficult decisions to make when choosing the final projects.

The Panel

Chairman - Dick Sisman, Sustainable Tourism Advisor
Derek Moore - Chairman of AITO
Chris Rowles, The Gambia Experience Managing Director
Joyce Stavroulakis, The Gambia Experience Resort Manager
Katie Bushnell, The Gambia Experience Sustainable Tourism Manager

A Message from the Chairman

“As Chairman of the judges of The Gambia Experience 25 year funding programme I was amazed by the number of applications received and the diversity of good works being undertaken by large and small organizations and charities in The Gambia.

Almost 60 applications were received for projects to develop educational facilities; medical programmes, social and wellbeing projects for all ages and projects linked to health and safety of humans and animals.

As judges we would really have liked to help all of the project proposers but had to make a choice which we felt were representative of all aspects of life and topics.

The judges carefully considered every application received and held 2 face to face meetings to discuss all of the applications.  I am convinced that the process for selection was both fair and thorough and I look forward to seeing the results of our deliberations delivering many environmental and social benefits that would not otherwise have been achieved.”

After many debates and much deliberation those projects to receiving funding are -
