Kachikally Crocodile Pond

The crocodile pool at Kachikally is one of the most famous tourist spots in the whole of The Gambia - after all, where else can you expect to stroke a two metre dinosaur named Charlie?! The pool here has something like 100 crocodiles, of varying shapes and sizes and all well looked after (and more importantly, well fed enough!) that they pose no danger to the hundreds of tourists who pass through on a daily basis. You can feed them, photograph them and even stroke them if they happen to be basking on the bank.

Whilst you're here though, do make sure to visit the small museum on the site as it provides much broader description of how and why the area came to be sanctified. It is still thought that the waters can bestow fertility and healing powers...The museum also has a number of different mystical artefacts relating to the local tribes and is a fascinating place to spend an hour. And if, after all that, you fancy a stroll in a small cool wooded area, there is a 6-acre woodland trail for your pleasure.
